If the beginning of one’s life is any indication of how they turn out, then Justice Marful-Sau should be nowhere close to his current position. For someone whose conception was initially denied by the man responsible, for someone whose childhood was filled with work to support himself, his mother and siblings and for someone whose father accepted and took him in later years, only to end up in a worse situation than the working childhood life with his mother, he is indeed a living testimony of The Living God.
Sharing some of the testimonies he has encountered in his life, the current Director of the Judicial Training Institute and an Appeal Court Judge supported his numerous encounters and victories with the Word of God. Hailing from Assin Adubiasse in the Central Region, his fondest memory of the power of God was at the initial stage of him being born again. This was several years ago, when his then seven year old daughter became ill and yet the hospitals were unable to diagnose her ailment. After a Full Gospel Meeting he had attended, he felt the need to pray for his daughter. He did and the sickness just disappeared completely. No traces of this mysterious ailment, has since been experienced by his daughter, who is now 27 years old and in her final year at the Law School.
He narrated another incident when his wife, Mrs. Eva Marful-Sau got involved in an accident. She was treated and discharged yet after two weeks, her situation got worse. The pain and discomfort grew to the point where she could not walk. He believed Jesus to heal her so when his aunt and husband persuaded them to seek prayers from a “powerful” woman of God, they reluctantly agreed after a series of persuasions. The prayer meeting was finally arranged but on the day, on their arrival, she refused to see them as arranged. They returned home perplexed amidst confusion and the unexplained reason why she has refused to see them. In time, his mother in law passed away and at her funeral at Accra Ridge Church, his wife had to be assisted (practically carried), to the podium to read a tribute for her mother. On another occasion, at the same Accra Ridge Church, Reverend Lyanne Koffi was having a one week program of revival. On the first day, he attended with Eva, however on the second day of attendance, he left earlier to attend a Full Gospel Fellowship Meeting. He was later informed of the wonderful news that miraculously, his wife had been healed. He believed that The Lord had presented his wife in her weak and poor state to a congregation at Accra Ridge Church, and to the same congregation on another occasion, The Lord caused her to be healed. The sequence of events revealed to Justice Marful-Sau the demonstration of God’s power and confirmation that He listens to our prayers.
At The Lord’s appointed time, He makes all things beautiful. Justice Marful-Sau was one of two Judges who was selected in 2007 to read a postgraduate programme in Petroleum Law at the University of Dundee, just at the time when Ghana discovered oil. In 2002, he was appointed a High Court Judge. In 2004, the first Commercial Court in West Africa was commissioned in a new facility built by Danida (a Danish Aid Agency). The then Chief Justice appointed six Judges to manage this facility. Out of the six, Justice Marful-Sau was appointed President. Before this appointment, he was presiding in Koforidua. In 2006, he was appointed an Appeal Court Judge and in the same year appointed Director of the Judicial Training Institute in 2011. With all these progressive successes and unparalleled strides of achievement, would you believe that right after his University Education, his Uncle secured a school in the United States for him to read his masters yet his visa application was refused? Would you believe that while in Form three at Breman Asikuma secondary school, his father left the country without notice abandoning him without any financial support and no idea how he was going to secure help to complete school yet before the following school term, he had been awarded a full scholarship? “The power of God is always at work” muted Justice Marful-Sau with a broad smile.
“When one door closes, you have the choice to stay behind it and cry, turn yourself and look at another option or to decide to leave all your cares to God” he adds. Listening to the humble Judge who shared his testimonies willingly he made one thing clear, that there is indeed a whole lot of uplifting for humble people.
On one New Year’s Day, he went to visit some relatives and as he was being served a drink, the drinking glass cracked into fragments. He was very surprised, so he took the bottle, prayed over it and drank the remaining content from the containing bottle. He sought explanation from friends with some science background who told him that it is possible for liquids of certain temperatures to crack glass of another temperature, but the puzzle was that, if that was the case, how come the bottle did not break? He prayed fervently about it and The Lord revealed to Him later that He did not want him to drink from that glass because it had been defiled. Indeed, The Lord takes care of His own!
The word and power of God have been the same as from creation. He that keeps us has not slumbered. He is near unto all who call upon Him in truth. He demonstrates His love for us in so many ways. He has been, is, and will be the only constant, for while all others have changed, he has remained unfazed. Trust In The Lord with all your heart and He will lift you up.
