Elsie Kumordzie has a strong believe in the teachings of Christ and His admonishing. She holds a strong faith in prayer and believes that prayer is important because it is a way of communicating with God. It keeps her closer to God and makes her appreciate certain things better than she did some time ago.
The Banker and mother of four with one being her biological child grew up with four siblings and had a relatively happy childhood. She shared aspects of her life and beliefs with Truelife Magazine.
TM (TrueLife Magazine): Let’s start off with where you fellowship and some activities you engage in at Church, if any?
EK (Elsie Kumordzie): I fellowship at the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry and I am part of the Christ To The Rural World Team. Christ to the Rural World is the church’s mission wing that undertakes crusades in rural areas across the country and the West Africa region.
TM: What is your favorite Bible verse?
EK: I have a number of favorite verses but I prefer Psalm 23, psalm 25 and philippians 4.6
TM: With all the successful strides you have achieved, do you think they have made you more humble?
EK: Yes. I have become much more humble and I have learnt to appreciate life much deeper. I will not say I am successful yet. I would rather say that I am “still a work in progress”. I have not yet reached self- actualization yet so, I am “still a work in progress”.
TM: What are some of the practical things you do in your daily life to show God’s love for others?
EK: I try to pray first thing when I get out of bed. For all days that The Lord has granted me life, I thank Him and commit the day, my home and my family into His hands. I generally help people as much as I can. I am also a foster parent to three adopted children as well. The Lord has been good to me. He has blessed me immensely and so as much as I can, I extend support and help to other people.
TM: Has there been any time that you can easily point to as your happiest moment?
EK: (With laughter) When my daughter first called me in soft voice “mommy” with a smile,
TM: Let’s just say God is here right now, in front of you, physically, and He is ready to answer a mystery that has lingered on your mind. What one question will that be?
EK: I honestly will ask why we as humans are unable to predict and know the future.
TM: And anything in particular you would love to ask Him for, or maybe more of?
EK: Oh yes. Wisdom, knowledge, strength, and above all patience.
TM: In your spare time, what would one possibly find you doing?
EK: Watching movies, spending time with my family.
Elsie was asked that given the opportunity to build a Church, a school and a hospital, which one will she go for and why, she mentioned that she would love to build a school. Her reason is that she loves to teach and to impart knowledge and a school will afford her the chance to do so.
The highlight of Elsie’s interview was the fact that she had adopted three children! Truelife was indeed amazed and we share Elsie’s “hmmmm” on why she adopted:
What motivated you to adopt?
I grew up in a home of 15 kids and only 5 of us were my parent’s kids. The rest were either relatives or kids that my parents had brought home from the village to take care of. My parent’s love for kids has been a motivation to also do same. In addition to this, I believe that when God blesses you in any way, you need to also give back something, and this is my small way of giving back.
How did you adopt them?
I have one boy who is 20 years, and two girls who are aged 22 and 16. I first adopted the boy and put him through school. When I had my daughter I needed a nanny so I took on the second child (a girl) to assist .She had completed Junior High School and could not further her education and was helping a trader in the market. I took her in and put her through Senior High School. Apart from putting them through school under my full guardian status, I also support them with monthly allowances. The third child, also a girl is the daughter of my parent’s house help that I decided to also take care of. She is currently in Junior High School.
How do you manage with the four kids?
The older girl is able to attend school on her own on public transport, and I have a driver who runs the pick ups for the rest of them. As they are sufficiently matured they are able to comport themselves at home after school before I return from work.
How does your Daughter feel about it?
She is only 3 years old. She looks up them as her siblings.
Elsie Concluded: I believe that anyone who can afford to take care of less privileged children should grab the opportunity and do so. Especially families believing God for the fruit of the womb, if you take care of others, God will take care of you. I believe that it may not be the portion of everyone to have kids and if we cannot have our own then we should take care of others. Even families with children can add other kids to their families. If this was to be the case then you can imagine the number of smiles we would put on the faces of numerous children orphaned and poverty stricken. There is such fulfillment in doing this and I know that God will reward abundantly anyone who takes care of his own. It doesn’t take much to adopt, it only takes kindness and a good heart!
